Cookie Policy
What are cookies?
A cookie is a small file which is placed on your computer’s hard drive.
When you visit our website for the first time, you are asked if you agree to have this cookie placed on your device. Once you agree, the file is added to your device and the cookie helps analyse web traffic or lets us know when you visit a particular part of our site.
Our website alerts you to the presence of cookies and allows you to accept them before proceeding.
If you decide to decline cookies then you can do this in a number of ways as outlined in the section entitled: How to Manage Cookies.
What do cookies do?
Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.
We believe that the cookies we use help us to provide you with a better website experience, by enabling us to monitor which pages you find useful and which you do not.
Rent A Ride Ltd (“Rent2Ride”, “we” or “us”) uses cookies and other similar technologies in the operation of our website, app and emails we send you (the “site”). For simplicity, in this Cookie Policy we refer to all these technologies as “cookies”.
When you first visit our site, we will ask your permission to set certain non-essential cookies and other similar technologies on your device. It is entirely up to you whether you consent or not (although some aspects of the site may not work as well if you don’t), and you can change your mind at any time. See ‘How to Manage Your Cookies’ for more details.
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies we set on your device, and your options to accept or refuse those cookies. The cookies on our site have five broad purposes: (1) some are strictly necessary for the site to work; (2) some help us analyse and understand the performance of the site; (3) some enable us to provide better functionality on the site; (4) some help us target advertising to our users; and finally (5) some are set by social media providers.
The cookies may be set by Rent2Ride, or by a third party. They also vary in how long they stay on your device: some will last for only as long as you are on the site, whilst some will remain on your device for much longer periods unless you delete them. Please read on for more details about each type of cookie.
Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are necessary for the site to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but some parts of the site will not then work.
Functional Cookies
These cookies enable the site to provide enhanced functionality and personalisation, for example letting you mark favourite cars. They may be set by us or by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not allow these cookies then some or all of these services may not function properly.
Cookies used:
Performance/Analytics Cookies
These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our site, and understand how most people use our site. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site. All information these cookies collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous. If you do not allow these cookies we will not know when you have visited our site, and will not be able to monitor its performance.
Cookies used:
- Google Analytics
Collects statistical information about how you use the site so that we can improve the site - HotJar
This allows the website to obtain data on visitor behaviour for statistical purposes.
Advertising Cookies
These cookies are set through our site by our advertising partners, and are used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. They do this based on uniquely identifying your browser and internet device, and tracking your behaviour on our site and other websites. If you do not allow these cookies, you will experience less targeted advertising (you may still see advertising online, but it will not be targeted based on your browsing history).
Cookies used:
- Google AdWords
Tracks performance of advertising campaigns - Facebook Pixel
Tracks performance of advertising campaigns - Google Analytics
Collects statistical information about how you use the site which can be used in advertising campaigns - Microsoft Ads
Used widely by Microsoft as a unique user ID. The cookie enables user tracking by synchronising the ID across many Microsoft domains.
Social Media Cookies
These cookies are set by a range of social media services that we have added to the site to enable you to log in to your account using your social media login details, and to share our content with your friends and networks. They are capable of tracking your browser across other sites and building up a profile of your interests. This may impact the content and messages you see on other websites you visit. If you do not allow these cookies you may not be able to use or see these sharing tools.
Cookies used:
Our Pages on Social Media
If you visit a page which we maintain on a social media site such as Facebook, it is likely that cookies will also be set on your device. These cookies are set by the social media network and so, to change the cookies that you receive from these sites, even on our pages, you will need to change the settings provided by the social media site.
Our Emails
Our emails contain a line of code called a pixel. We use pixels to check whether you received our email and, if you did, whether you opened it or clicked any links in it. We use this information to check you have received important information from us, so that our customer support team can help you better.
If your email programme allows it, the pixel also tells us how long you looked at our email, on what device and from where. We use this information only to create aggregated reports (and not to try to identify you individually). We use these reports to understand which technologies people use to read our emails (for example, device type or operating system) and where our emails end up. We use this information to help improve our services.
How to Manage Your Cookies
You can withdraw your consent to cookies at any time by altering the settings in your internet browser or via the operating system on your mobile device. If you are using an internet browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge), you can accept or decline cookies by modifying the settings in your browser. For instructions on how to manage cookies in your browser, please read the information available here: allaboutcookies.org/manage-cookies. Please note that if you refuse all cookies, including strictly necessary and functional cookies, some aspects of our site will not work. If you are using our site on a mobile app, the operating system of your mobile device (e.g. Apple iOS, or Google Android) should provide privacy settings to allow you to choose how technologies similar to cookies can be used on your device. Please refer to the instructions or help pages of your mobile operating system to learn more about these functions.
