How To Get A PCO Licence

Getting a PCO licence is essential for a PCO driver to work in London. Before hiring a PCO vehicle you need to have this document proving that you are eligible to work for platforms like Uber and Bolt and you are authorised by Transport for London. Here are the various steps you need to take to get a PCO licence.

PCO Licence Steps

1. Meet The Requirements

To get a PCO licence you need to be older than 21, be legally allowed to work in the UK and have more than three years of driving experience.

If you meet these requirements you then need to show a range of documents to become a PCO driver such as a passport, UK drivers licence, national insurance number, TfL English qualification, a valid debit or credit card and DVLA check code.

2. Pass A DBS

The next step to get a PCO Licence is to pass an enhanced DBS check where you must have no criminal records. There is the option of signing up to the DBS update service for £13 and then not having to worry about getting a new background check every year when you’re a PCO driver.

3. Complete A Medical Exam

There is no chance of you getting a PCO licence and driving a PCO vehicle if you fail a medical exam. Driving for extended periods can be tiring and you need to be physically fit enough.

You must pass the Group 2 standards of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency and then complete the TPH/204 medical forms. Your GP will then sign this and check all the details on the form are correct.

Not to mention, you must do an eye test to also ensure your vision is good enough and whether you require glasses when driving.

4. Pass A TfL English Test

Daily, you will be speaking to passengers in London, therefore, to get a PCO licence you need to be fluent in English and pass a Tfl English test.

5. Apply Online

The next step to getting your PCO licence and becoming a PCO driver is to submit your PCO licence application online. Read each question properly and choose the correct answers.

6. Complete A Topographical Test

After applying for a PCO licence and prospecting different PCO cars, you will need to complete a topographical test. This is an assessment of your map-reading skills which is crucial for every PCO driver.
